All turns to black and the distinctive sound of Shamblers roaring can be heard before the player emerges. However, it can still be avoided by taking cover before the attack animation ends.Īfter defeating the Gate Warden in the Death Gate, the player enters a portal. They have 1800 health apiece, triple that of a basic Shambler, and their lightning attack can track a moving player, making it unfeasible to dodge by strafing. The final boss fight of Call of the Machine is a pair of more powerful Shamblers known as the Masters of the Machine. Modir's ranged attack is essentially the same as that of a basic Shambler, and he won't approach the player for melee attacks. ![]() Modir has a prodigious 24000 health, and while it is technically possible to kill him with conventional weaponry, there's a better way to defeat him - see the Fatalism page for details. It should be noted that while the original Shambler from Quake was resistant to explosive weapons - taking only half the usual damage from the Grenade Launcher and Rocket Launcher - the Quake II Shambler does not have this property. Melee: The Shambler has two different melee attacks the one-handed claw swings are faster and deal around 75 damage, its two-handed overhead smash is slower but deals well over 100 damage if it connects. It can also be avoided by stepping behind cover before the Shambler's attack animation ends. However, unlike the lightning used by Shamblers in Quake, it is easy to dodge by strafing. It is a hitscan attack, and if the full burst connects it delivers around 30 damage in total. Lightning: The Shambler can project a burst of lightning from its claws at range. It behaves aggressively, seeking to enter melee with its target, but delivering its ranged lightning attack as it approaches. The basic Shambler has 600 health - somewhere between a Gladiator and a Tank - and has a good turn of speed. The final level of Call of the Machine, Temple of the Creator, includes two more powerful Shamblers known as the Masters of the Machine. He inhabits a chamber much like the House of Chthon from Quake, with Modir behaving much like Chthon did, remaining in the centre of the lava and attacking the player at range. ![]() Modir is a boss fight of sorts appearing in the level Fatalism. A third basic Shambler is encountered alongside Modir.Incidentally, the Shambler counts as being killed for the purposes of achieving 100% kills. However, as soon as the combatants begin to fight, the player is teleported back to the underground temple. While exploring an ancient underground temple, the player will be briefly teleported to the Castle of the Damned, a level from Quake, to be confronted with a Shambler. Another basic Shambler is (very briefly) encountered in the level Too Greedy in OPERATION: Darkest Depths.A basic Shambler can be found in the level Give Me Back My Moon in OPERATION: Corpse Run, but it is hidden inside a secret area. ![]() A total of six individual Shamblers are encountered in Call of the Machine.
